I'm a Lot Healthier and I Feel Great
I myself have no kids, but I have had no television for over 2 years!
I was at one time very addicted to TV. I couldn't stop watching it.
I would get home from work and from then to bedtime I would be watching
TV. I really feel like I wasted those years; I was very overweight
and unhappy.
A lot has changed in the past 2 years. It all started when I was out
of a job. I had relocated without a job, but to be closer to family.
Huge risk, and it didn't work out like I thought it would. Anyways, when
I was packing I had 2 televisions, one was newer and one belonged to
my great grandmother. Well I decided I didn't want to bring both sets
with me, so I gave the newer one away (smart choice or otherwise I wouldn't
be telling this story!) and kept the old one.
Needless to say the set was about 25 years old and the remote didn't
work and I was in my new place for about a month and the screen suddenly
went from a 19 inch to about 1/2 an inch, meaning the shows were condensed
to that small of a space, I could hear it but not watch it. I was really
upset at the time and didn't realize that I had an addiction, I just
knew I couldn't find work and my money was very tight! Went about 4 days
and had to have a TV, felt like a problem at that point, but I had to
have it! I went to the store and and spent $150 on a new TV set with
barely enough money to buy groceries. Here I was nearly broke and had
to have a TV! I kept it almost the 30 days before I could get my money
back, I needed the money so bad, took the set back.
The day was March 31st, 2004 and I ended my TV days with The Young and
the Restless, my favorite program for years, I unplugged it and took
it back. I started a new job on April 1st. I remember the day so well,
and what a change, I had a tough time for about 6 weeks, and could have
gotten another TV, but I started looking back and realized that I had
wasted my life in front of the TV!!!! Can't remember years, just damn
programs! Life isn't meant to be lived that way! Life is wasted in front
of TV, all those hours of being a zombie.
I am a lot healthier
and I feel great. I still don't have the social network that I want,
too many years in front of the TV, I feel left me socially
challenged and now in my mid-30's I'm having a very tough time, but I
want to live and not waste my life through characters in the set!
Now I do watch TV at my mothers house, or occasionally at my friends
house, that's so rarely and my mother knows I don't have a TV, so that's
very limited, I'd say around 25 hours of TV watching a year. I go to
the movies still, that's fun, but most of it is way overdone! When I
do watch TV it seems so fake to me and makes me want to zone out! Another
thing, TV watching makes me angry, not sure why, but I get agitated with
it. It's an escape from reality, but an escape to where??
Now I do go online, but not often, in fact I'm currently looking for
a job again and I'm online quite a bit right now, but otherwise forget
it. For me, this is a box (the monitor) like TV, and who should be
wasting there time staring at a box! No longer for me, forget that!
